If you have been to Pinellas County, Florida, you have observed that it is a growing and vibrant community. With Tampa Bay on the East and the Gulf of Mexico on the West, Pinellas County has a mix of urban culture and beach life. But, because of the attraction to the area, Pinellas County is Florida’s most densely populated county. When you add in the number of elderly drivers and tourists to the roads,
auto accidents are inevitable.
At Battaglia, Ross, Dicus & McQuaid, P.A., we have been representing people who have been
injured in auto accidents in Pinellas County for over 60 years. Since 1958 (62 years and counting), we have handled every type of case imaginable. From the most tragic cases involving death, paralysis, or brain injuries, to rear-end fender benders, we have helped families through difficult times. Our goal is to always put our clients’ best interest first. We would not have survived as a law firm if we cut corners or took advantage of people. We understand that
auto accidents can be overwhelming and it is our job to assist you through the process. We want all of our clients to get better and then recover maximum compensation.
What Are the Statistics for Pinellas County Auto Accidents?
The
figures compiled by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles for auto accidents in Pinellas County are staggering. From January 1, 2018-March 30, 2020, FLHSMV compiled a variety of data on all types of crashes. Again, this data is specifically limited to only Pinellas County. In 2018, there were a total of 17,875 reported crashes. In 2019, there were 17,070, and for the first three months of 2020, there were 3,775. As far as the number of people injured from these crashes, in 2018 there were 10,751, in 2019, 10,410, and in 2020, 2,159. In 2018, 130 people were killed in crashes, in 2019, 98, and in 2020, there have been 24. This is an extremely high number of accidents, injuries and deaths for a county the size of Pinellas.
The stats on the specific types of crashes are also concerning. Bicycle crashes in 2018 numbered 622, in 2019 there were 513, and in 2020 there have been 133.
Motorcycle crashes in 2018 numbered 503, in 2019 there were 425, and in 2020 there have been 103. Pedestrian crashes in 2018 numbered 504, in 2019 there were 572, and in 2020 there have been 135. Finally, hit and run crashes continue to be a major problem. In 2018 there were a total of 4,985 hit and run crashes, in 2019 there were 4,847, and in 2020 there were 1,117. These
hit and run crashes are often the most troubling because without another driver/car to pursue for compensation, the victims are often left with nothing.
The above statistics reflect just how dangerous the roads can be in Pinellas County for automobiles, pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists. Based on these figures, it does not appear that any major improvements are being made to cut down on the number of crashes and injuries. While it is a good idea to always be a safe and defensive driver, sometimes crashes are inevitable. Fortunately, if you have been
injured in an accident, there are numerous quality health care providers in the area who specialize in treating these types of injuries. We work with most of these providers and can refer you to quality doctors that are honest and not simply out to bill your insurance company.
Why Should You Hire Battaglia, Ross, Dicus & McQuaid, PA?

Sean McQuaid, the current President of the Firm is also the President of the St. Petersburg Bar Association for 2020-21. He has been recognized by every legal ranking company as being one of Florida’s top personal injury attorneys.
Aubrey Dicus, the Firm’s past-President was also a President of the St. Petersburg Bar Association. Mr. Dicus has received numerous awards and accolades over his career and has successfully won multiple multi-million dollar claims at trial.
Jonathon Douglas is the newest partner to the Firm. He was formerly a trial attorney for many insurance companies and has brought those skills with him. He is recognized as Florida Trend’s Legal Elite for 2020.
Unlike many
personal injury firms in the area, we handle our cases from start to finish. There are many law firms that try to settle the case without a lawsuit, which results in a lower result for the client. If the case cannot be settled, then they refer it out to another lawyer for a kickback. This is not how we operate and you should be wary of firms like this. If the firm does not try cases, then the insurance company will surely know that information. If the insurance company knows that there is no jury to hold it in check, then your case will be offered less money. That is the simple truth of
how auto accident claims work. You will never have that problem at Battaglia, Ross, Dicus & McQuaid, PA because the insurance adjusters know who we are and respect our abilities and reputation.
